Parrotfish are named for theirÃÂ dentition,ÃÂ which is distinct from other fish, including otherÃÂ labrids. Their numerous teeth are arranged in a tightly packed mosaic on the external surface of their jaw bones, forming aÃÂ parrot-like beak with which they raspÃÂ algaeÃÂ from coral and other rocky substratesÃÂ which contributes to the process ofÃÂ bioerosion. |
