Antique primitive hand crank washer from 1898. In the 1800`s the sudsy wash water was wrung out of fabrics by hand. It was exhausting labor for the person doing it. Hand-wringing removed only about 50 percent of the moisture from the laundered fabric. It was not until 1860 that a mechanical wringer was invented that removed 98 percent of the moisture. This is isolated image of hand crank model from 1898.
