| Handa Inari Shrine is an old shrine said to have been founded in either the 4th year of Wado (711) or the Eternal Era (1113-17). During the Edo period (1603-1868), many people came to the shrine to pray for children's pemphigus, measles, and easy childbirth, and it is said that a man named Ganjinboju (a Buddhist priest) in the mid-Edo period (1603-1868) danced around the country chanting, Kasai Kanamachi Handa no Inari, pemphigus is light and measles is light... The song was also depicted in Kabuki and Kyogen plays. |
