Serene summertime view of Gypsy Vanner horses grazing on grassy hilltop in CentralNewYork.Gypsy Vanner horses are breed of domestic horse from the British Isles, small, solidly-built horse of cob conformation. It is associated with Irish Travellers and English Romanichal Travellers or Gypsy Tinkers. From about 1850, travelling people in the British Isles began to use this horse to pull their caravans called vardos. A "vanner" is a light draught horse suitable for pulling a horse-drawn van. Gypsy horses may also be piebald, skewbald or any solid colour. Feathering, long hair on the legs, is considered a characteristic and decorative feature. Gypsy Horses came to America in 1996. |
