The John Bell memorial features three soldiers: a Grenadier, a Scotsman and a Coldstream guard. Above them, a figure represents Victory with open arms, holding two laurel crowns. In 1914 the memorial was moved back a few metres from its original location to allow for the statues of Florence Nightingale (a war nurse) and Sidney Herbert (then Secretary of State for War).
