The stronghold Grodno Castle rises above the valley of the Bystrzyca Świdnicka river. Grodno Castle is one of the most picturesquely situated castles in Silesia. The picturesque location of the castle is enhanced by the Bystrzyckie Lake situated at the foot of the mountain. The first mentions of the existence of the castle come from 1315, but the history of the castle can go back to an earlier period. The construction of a brick castle is commonly attributed to the Silesian Piast, Prince Bolek I of the Seven. In the first half of the fourteenth century, during the reign of prince Bolek II Mały, the upper castle was expanded, which then consisted of a defensive tower, two stone buildings constituting the crew`s quarters, a gate tower, wooden farm buildings and a large courtyard. The present appearance of the castle is typical of the Gothic and Renaissance styles. The castle is open to visitors.
