The scientific name of the Green Garden Lizard is Calotus Calotes. Founds in both forests and home gardens. Mostly lives in low lands and mid hills. However they are rare in Northern part and higher hills of Sri Lanka.The body size of Green Garden Lizard is nearly 50 cm to 65 cm with his characteristic long tail. The body color is bright green. But several color variations has been recorded according to the living area. During the breeding season the male develops a bright red head and big throat.Green Garden Lizards reproduce by laying eggs. Females dig holes in the ground and bury their eggs carefully. Heat of the sun and earth incubating eggs until they hatch. The Lizards feeds mainly on insects but may also take plant materials such as buds and flowers.
