The scientific name of the Green Garden Lizard is Calotus Calotes.Founds in both forests and home gardens. Mostly lives in low lands andmid hills. However they are rare in Northern part and higher hills of SriLanka.The body size of Green Garden Lizard is nearly 50 cm to 65 cm with hischaracteristic long tail. The body color is bright green. But several colorvariations has been recorded according to the living area. During thebreeding season the male develops a bright red head and big throatGreen Garden Lizards reproduce by laying eggs. Females dig holes in theground and bury their eggs carefully. Heat of the sun and earth incubatingeggs until they hatch. The Lizards feeds mainly on insects but may alsotake plant materials such as buds and flowers.
