A fortified wall in northern China, extending 1,500 miles from Kansu province in the west to Lop Nur, north east of Beijing. It was first built circa 210BC, as a protection against nomad invaders although the present wall dates from the Ming dynasty. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. |
