The Gotland sheep is a breed of domestic sheep named for the Swedish island of Gotland. Both rams and ewes have slightly twisted and inverted horns, with strong rifling and distinct ‘growth rings’. Rams’ horns are big and strong while the ewes’ are more slender and delicate. The Gotland Peltsheep pälsfår or modern Gotland has been developed in Sweden since the 1920’s through controlled breeding and intensive selection, producing a true multipurpose long wool sheep, yielding good flavoured close-grained meat, furskins and soft silky lustrous fleece.
