Many climbing roses are sports of non-climbing rose bushes. In shrubby roses for example, tea hybrids sometimes individual shoots can show stronger climbing growth. This results in varieties that are identical to the original variety except for the stronger growth. These new cultivars are then usually named after the initial cultivar, with `Climbing` prefixed to the name. Thus, from the shrub rose Souvenir de la Malmaison, the climbing rose Climbing Souvenir de la Malmaison was created. Climbing roses grow from two to ten meters high. Depending on the variety and species, they are single or multiple flowering.
