When Glide Memorial Church opened on Ellis Street in San Francisco in 1930, it was a conservative church with a conservative United Methodist Church congregation. But being in the center of the cities Tenderloin district and the counter culture center of the 1960`s, it has become one of the most liberal churches in America. Glide Church is a Memorial church because Lizzie Glide, the church founder, bought the land it sits on, on Ellis at Taylor Streets, as a memorial to her husband. With help from endowments, Glide is still able to run 87 social service programs for the cities most needy, including free meals three times a day every day. There is also a very well respected Gospel Choir. As seen 5 October 2022.
