Pordoi is a pass in the Italian Dolomites in the Alps, located between the Sella group in the north and the Marmolada group in the south. The pass is at an altitude of 2,239 meters. Here you find this war cemetery, an ossuary, started after the First World War, and there are 8,582 soldiers from Austria-Hungary and Germany buried here. In 1956, 847 German soldiers who were killed in the Second World War were buried around the ossuary. Behind the Col di Lana there is the front area of the Ampezzaner Dolomites.
