Fort Morgan, which lies on the old Overland Trail, offers a good look at Colorado`s agricultural industry. Farmers and ranchers have found these plains a great place for grazing and raising important crops such as wheat and sugar beets. A large GW sugar plant is the focal point of town. Fort Morgan is also known for its Rainbow Arch Bridge – an eleven-span Marsh arch bridge over South Platte River, just north of town. Built in 1922 – 1923, this landmark was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. Additionally, in 1992 it was designated a Colorado Civil Engineering Landmark. For music lovers, this Colorado community is known as the high school home of Glenn Miller. The famous band leader began perfecting his swing band style at the Fort Morgan High School and a tour of the town reveals several places where he worked, as well as the Cover Theater, where he attended musical events. The Fort Morgan Museum traces the area`s history from the Pawnee and other Plains Indians to its settlement and beyond.
