The garden snail (Helix pomatia) is a species of land snail from the snail family. With its size of 40–50 mm, it is one of the largest gastropods living in the Czech Republic. It has a tan, dark brown or white shell with dark bands. It lives approximately six years in the wild, up to ten to twelve in captivity. It occurs in bushes and groves, but often also in gardens. It survives the winter by creating a calcareous "lid" (epiphragm)
