Gamayun is a prophetic bird in Slavic folklore. The creature is a symbol of wisdom and knowledge and it lives on an island in the east, close to paradise. Like two other Russian mythological birds - Sirin and Alkonost (close to the Greek Sirens and Alcyone) - Gamayun is depicted as a bird with a woman's head.
