Pictured is the Fresco at the entrance to the Franciscus Xaverius Chapel in the interior of the Piarist Church, Krems on the Danube, Austria. The church is the oldest in the city. It is also called Krems Frauenberg Church. The painting of fresco is by Martin Johann Schmidt. The Christogram IHS is a monogram symbolizing Jesus Christ. Franciscus Xaverius is Latin for Francis Xavier, a Navarrese Basque Roman Catholic missionary, who was a co-founder of the Society of Jesus, and who lived from 1506 to 1552. He was known as the `Apostle of the Indies` and the `Apostle of Japan`. The crucifix in his hand is one of his attributes.
