Fed by four alpine glaciers, Fox Glacier is a scenic spot on the Southern Alps, in the southwest corner of New Zealand. The glacier falls nearly 2,600 meters on its 13 km journey down to the coast, to end among lush temperate rain forest only 300 meters above sea level. It was named in 1872 after the then Prime Minister of New Zealand, Sir William Fox. The name of the glacier was officially altered to Fox Glacier / Te Moeka o Tuawe after 1998. |
