| A view of the highest and oldest part of famous Orava Castle, situated on a high rock. This Romanesque citadel was build in 13th century as a guardian fortification on the road to Poland. Since then The Orava Castle has undergone massive reconstruction mostly in the 20th century and now the whole castle is declared as a national cultural monument. The Orava Castle is opened to public (for a small fee) and it is definitely worth a visit, because many attractions can be seen there including Museum, Night Tours, Festivals and much more. This castle is also a popular location for filming fairy tale, or horror movies. Many scenes of the world famous Nosferatu (1922) film were filmed there. It is located in Oravsky Podzamok town, in the northern Slovakia, Orava region. |
