Invented by West Point graduate Robert Parrott, the Parrott cannon had a thick band of steel sweated onto an iron barrel so it could fire a heavy charge. This 100 pound Naval Parrott had a range of 6825 yards so it could easily reach Fort Moultrie. The Parrott had a poor safety record and a number of them exploded. This gun is aimed at Fort Moultrie. Note the metal gun carriage.
