Almost everywhere you go today anywhere around the world,from big cities to small towns,one thing they almost all have in common is the presence of cars. Cars are so prevalent now,it is almost impossible to picture a time when cars did not exists. If you could go back in the time to just before 1908,when Henry Ford started the first mass production of a car with the Model T,people generally got around on foot,or for longer trips on horse. Family trips or for moving lots of things,a horse with a carriage. To stable and care for the horse,and then with the added carriage required more space,most city homes for the common people did not have enough space. To fill this need,livery stables became quite common,the very first to open in San Francisco in 1851. This was something of a cross between a modern Taxi and car rental,where not only were horses stabled there but they also held carriages and even drivers available for rent. It is the very well done relief of the horse head and mane that makes this otherwise very plain building stand out. As seen 14 September 2023.
