The Shelduck is a large, long-necked duck that resembles a goose. It lives on seashores, lakes and rivers. It prefers open areas with little vegetation. It feeds in shallow waters, on grassy shores and in fields where irrigation is carried out. It has a wide range of food, from insects, worms, small fish and shellfish to aquatic plants. Rarely, it can also feed on filter plankton. They usually make their nests in tree holes, rabbit burrows and haystacks. It is also rarely seen to make their nests in reedy areas. They do not nest in areas more than 1 kilometer away from a wetland. They use artificial nests prepared for their breeding purposes.
