Black crowned Night Heron. (Nycticorax nycticorax). It is a stocky heron, half the size of a grey heron, and is active mostly at dusk. The night heron is found in a variety of moist habitats with fresh, brackish or salt water enriched with aquatic vegetation, as well as on the wooded shores of shallow rivers, lagoons, ponds, lakes, swamps and mangroves. It can be seen flying during the day, but feeds at night or in the early morning (it can also be seen feeding during the day during the breeding season). It can fly at speeds of up to 56 km h. Night herons are very social birds all year round. They are often seen in association with conspecifics or other heron species.
