Mergansers swim along with their heads ducked underwater, so they can watch for fish. When they see one they want, they take off like a torpedo after them, swimming along underwater sometimes for up to a minute or longer! When they are lucky enough to catch one, they swallow it whole and then stand up and flap their wings.
