The is a flock, or rather a Flamboyance of pink flamingos seen at the Abilene, Texas Zoo in the late fall. They are standing on a sand bar in the center of a water space. This is one of the first exhibits one sees as they enter the zoo in Abilene. The largest flamingo is the Greater Flamingo which is also the most common species. The birds are often as tall as 2.9 feet and they can weigh between 3.3-4 pounds. Flamingos can fly and they can get up to 35 miles an hour in the sir. They're very social and they often congregate in groups (flamboyances) of 10s of thousands of individual birds.
