These five historic flags, from left to right, are: The 35-star United States Flag (1865); The 33-star United States Flag -- also called Fort Sumter Flag (1861); The Second National Flag of the Confederacy, or Stainless Banner (1863); The First National Flag of the Confederacy, or Stars and Bars (1861); The South Carolina State Flag (since 1861). They represent the flags that flew over Fort Sumter during the Civil War.
