| First opened in 1870 as Hunter Point Shipyard, it was purchased by the navy in 1940, a year before the Pearl Harbor attack. Finally and completely closed down in 1994, and after the Superfund cleanup, parcels have been sold off for redevelopments, mainly in new housing. |
