The Day of the Dead is a Mexican celebration of pre-Hispanic origin that honors the deceased on November 2, begins on November 1, and coincides with the Catholic celebrations of All Souls Day and All Saints Day. It is a Mexican and Central American festivity, it is also celebrated in many communities of the United States, where there is a large Mexican and Central American population. Unesco has declared this festivity an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The Day of the Dead is a day also celebrated in Brazil, as Dia dos Finados, although this festivity does not have the same pre-Hispanic roots as the Mexican holiday.
