The TESO (Koninklijke N.V. Texels Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming) was established primarily for the islanders and they are often also shareholders. The 3 650 shares which were sold for five or 25 guilders in 1907 are owned by some 3 100 (mainly residents of Texel) shareholders. Since its inception no new shares have ever been issued and in order to keep them in the hands of Texel residents as much as possible no dividend is paid but shareholders can make a number of free crossings. For practical reasons only return tickets are sold and there is only ticket sales in Den Helder. This means that everyone who was born on Texel and takes the boat to Den Helder for the first time travels without a ticket. But also the tourist island hopper coming from another Wadden island like Vlieland in transit to Den Helder can board the boat from Texel for free.By default there is an hourly departure on both sides. The boat crosses the Marsdiep in about twenty minutes. Normally the ferry service is operated with the Texelstroom. |
