| Faisal Al-Husseini speaks to reporters in Jerusalem in 1990. He was the main operative for the PLO in East Jerusalem. He was descended from Muslim and Palestinian nobility. His grand uncle was the top Palestinian official under the British Mandate, Hajj Amin Husseini. The Mufti fled Jerusalem during World War Two and broadcast for Hitler`s propaganda machine in Berlin to the Arab world. Faisal al Husseini was seen as more pragmatic than Yassir Arafat and expressed regret that Arafat rebuffed President Clinton`s final peace offering. He died in Amman, Jordan, from a heart attack on May 31, 2001, at the age of 60. |
