Genus: Cuscuta. Dodder is sometimes referred to by other names, i.e. love vine, strangleweed, devil's guts, goldthread, pull-down, devil's ringlet, hellbine, hairweed, devil's hair, hailweed, beggarweed, hellweed, and strangle tare.
