Built in Gothic style, the Great or Jacobeanchurch is a monument of medieval Leeuwarden, located in the north of Holland in the province of Friesland. On sundays, the Stadtholder and his family mainly worshipped in this church. In 1662, a special entrance was made for them, to allow the Frisian Nassaus easier acces to the burial chapel and royal gallery. Later, a copper tree with apples painted orange was placed above this gate. In the 18th century this gate was called The Orange Tree.
