| Originally opened in 1974 as The Elephant Walk, it became a popular bar/restaurant conveniently located on the corner of 18th and Castro Sts.
On the very day they were preparing for their 4th anniversary, in 1978, Harvey Milk was assassinated.
Due to the outcome of the trial of Dan White, the assassin, riots broke out throughout the city, including The Elephant Walk.
After the lease expired in 1985, it was reopened in 1986, in honor of Harvey Milk. |
