| Much of Chinatown history, and indeed China itself, is associated with opium dens and prostitution. This was actually imported into China by the Europeans themselves, as a cheap way to extract the goods and raw materials they had to offer.
Although Duncombe Alley did in fact offer opium dens along with the prostitutes, back in the 1870`s and 1880`s, today it is one of many back ally streets to legitamate businesses and apartments.
