The Double crested cormorant, Nanoterum auritum, is an aquatic bird with an aquatic diet, mainly fish, but is omnivorous, and will eat anything aquatic. Although they do have very sharp, hooked beaks for catching fish, not having hands with fingers, they have no way of holding food to remove unwanted parts. With a catch of crustaceans or amphibians, they must shake it back and forth to work off the legs before finally swallowing it. As witnessed at Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park 7 April 2022.
