| An alternative view as seen from a cruise boat of the Dom Luis 1 Bridge that spans the River Douro. Straight ahead and on the left is Vila Nova de Gaia, home to the famous Port Houses and on the right the start of the historic Ribeira district of Porto. The bridge was built between 1881 - 85 by Theophile Seyrig, a previous partner of civil engineer Gustave Eiffel. A river cruise boat is approaching the bridge and the Metro train is on the higher level of the bridge. |
