| The peculiar building was the headquarters of one of the most important insurance companies in Spain: La Unión and el Fénix Español, a company born in Madrid, in 1879, as a result of the merger of `La Unión`, founded in 1856, and `El Fénix Español, CompañÃÂa de Seguros Reunidos`, founded in 1864. The company, following the Banesto crisis, will be intervened by the State and merged with the French group AGF 1994 and later the German group Allianz 1999. |
