Lake Carezza - Karersee in German is a small alpine lake located in the upper Val d'Ega at 1534 m in the municipality of Nova Levante, about 25 km from Bolzano in South Tyrol, nestled between thick fir woods, under the slopes of the Latemar massif, which is reflected in its crystalline water. The lake is known for its colors and for this reason is also called "lago dell'arcobaleno" - "the lake of the rainbow". The name of the lake derives, according to the Guide of the Italian Touring Club, from the "Caricaceae", a family of plants with broad lobed leaves ("carezza" would be the Italian adaptation of the local dialect term that indicates these plants).
