Commissioned on 6 November 1943 and arrived at Pearl Harbor 14 February 1944. She was decommissioned on 15 December 1945, after having earned six battle stars. Along the way she completed six war patrols, sinking six Japanese ships, damaged four additional ones, with a total of over 27,000 tons of enemy damage inflicted. After being decommissioned, she served as a training ship for the Navy Reserve, and is now a National Historic Monument and museum, sitting at the San Francisco Maritime Museum. And, many of her part do still work.
