A youthful bronze statue of David sculpted by the early Renaissance artist, Andrea del Verrocchio, is part of the permanent collection of the National Museum of Bargello in Florence, Italy. The model for this sculpture may have been the young Leonardo da Vinci. In the background you can see the earlier masterpiece of David, sculpted by Donatello, a predecessor of Verrocchio. Commissioned by the wealthy Medici family, it is one of the first unsupported works of art cast in bronze of the Renaissance period.
