| Dance of Kothala (Kothala Padhaya) performers at the Esala Perahera in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The dancers carry a pot of Pirith water (blessed water) which not only symbolises prosperity but the water is supposed to have a healing power in Sinhala culture. The Esala Perahera is held to honour the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha (which is enshrined within the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic). |
