Common Sandpiper Actitis hypoleucos. Length 18-20.5 cm, wingspan 32-35 cm and weight 80-120 gr. It is known for its short legs, tail wagging and unique flight. It is capable of exploiting all wetlands from flooded banks to the smallest puddles. It usually builds its nest on the ground among grasses at the water's edge, in wooded areas and generally prefers streams, freshwater lakes and sheltered bays on the seashore, and pebbly areas rather than beaches. It mostly wanders alone, landing on low objects, regularly waving its head and tail up and down.
