Little Grebe. (Tachybaptus ruficollis). The little grebe is a short, stocky bird. It is known as the smallest and most common of Britain's diving birds. It is identifiable not only by its characteristic features but also by the pale yellow spot on its bill. It is generally not very social. It sometimes feeds with other water birds. It is an excellent swimmer and diver. It stalks its prey from underwater.
