The Crested gecko (Correlophus ciliatus) has an amazing history. Described in 1868 after which the species was never seen again and thought to be extinct. Then in 1994 the species was rediscovered after a tropical storm and a few specimens were brought to Europe and the US. They developed to be one of the most popular pet lizards in the world. The crested gecko is endemic to South Province,New Caledonia.
