Characteristic for the Crested Francolin is a dark cap (with feathers standing up when the bird is alarmed) with contrasting, white eyebrow stripe and dark-striped chest, and red legs. The tail is often held cocked, bantam-like, at an angle of 45ð. In flight the black tail is conspicuous. Height: 33-35 cm.
