Author, singer, activist, and civil rights leader, Coretta Scott King arrives at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC on January 22, 1977. The occasion was celebrations and cultural activities in honor of the newly-installed United States President, Jimmy Carter. Mrs. King was the widow of peace and civil rights leader, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, who was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee in 1968. Mrs. King died on January 30, 2006 in Rosarita, Mexico, from complications of ovarian cancer at the age of 78. |
