When the Gold Rush hit San Francisco in 1849,many diverse groups of people from all over the world suddenly came. This included many Jewish people, who at that time tended to have been the less strict Reform Jews. With the increasing pogroms of the 1880's,the Jews of Eastern Europe started fleeing in masses, and these Jews tended to be more orthodox. Built in 1908,Congregation B'nai David was a replacement to the original one that was lost in the 1906 Earthquake, the building was kept as simple as possible so as not to call attention to what it was used for. As with a lot of immigrant groups, over time the younger generations started to move away, this building is now reported to be apartments. As seen 2 August 2023.
