It is a very well camouflaged bird. They feed mostly on insects, worms and plants in soft mud. Females determine the nest location on damp and wet ground. They build the nest hidden among the grass. The nest is deep and lined with grass. It is a true migratory bird. They can sometimes form large flocks during migration and winter, but it is not a truly swarming bird. They are more often seen in small flocks.
