The Green Iguana, or Common Iguana, (Iguana iguana) can be ferocious, or at least defensive, in its natural environment but can be tamed to be a gentle house pet, as is the case with the one pictured here. With proper affection, attention and gentleness, these large (up to 5 feet long and 15 pounds) vegetarian lizards can be excellent companions even for children, albeit under proper supervision. They can even be house-broken by establishing a regular structured daily regimen.
