Behind the bridge on the left the Montelbaenstower originally built in 1516 for the purpose of defending the city. On the right of this tower the tower of the Zuiderkerk, one of the earliest churches in Amsterdam to be built in the Renaissance style and the first in the city to be built for the Dutch Reformed Church. |
